The basics of nose jobs
One of the best known types of cosmetic surgery is rhinoplasty. If you live in the Charlotte area and are considering surgery to fix your nose, it may help to understand the process.
Changing the shape of the nose means changing the cartilage and bone under the skin. Common reasons for a nose job are to reduce a nasal hump, repair a deviated septum or change the size of the tip of the nose or the direction in which it points. The septum is the part of the nose that separates the nostrils.
The incisions of rhinoplasty are usually done inside the nose, where nobody can see them. This is called a closed rhinoplasty. Any swelling that happens after the surgery will go away quickly. If an incision is needed in the outside skin, that is an open rhinoplasty, and the incision is usually in the skin between the nostrils.
After surgery, there is usually some swelling, moderate bruising and possibly some temporary skin numbness. The bruising fades within a week to ten days, while the swelling can last for several weeks.
