Definition of rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that either corrects some type of medical problem such as a deviated septum or which improves the features and appearance of your nose. Rhinoplasty surgery is typically a low-risk surgery and is extremely popular, especially among teenagers. You can typically return to work within a few days after rhinoplasty surgery, although you will usually experience bruising and swelling which will go away within a couple of weeks.
Deciding on rhinoplasty surgery
Before you decide to go ahead with rhinoplasty surgery, you should make a consultation appointment with Dr. M. Sean Freeman, Charlotte’s top rhinoplasty surgeon. During this appointment, Dr. Freeman will discuss the details of the rhinoplasty surgery procedure, as well as your goals for the surgery and your purpose for wanting to change the appearance of your nose. He may use computer imaging to show you how you will appear with a differently shaped nose.
Types of rhinoplasty surgery
Dr. Freeman performs three primary types of rhinoplast surgery. These are closed rhinoplasty, open rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplast.
During closed rhinoplast surgery, Dr. Freeman makes several small incisions on the inside of your nose. Then he makes the necessary revisions or corrections without creating any scars on the exterior of your nose. This type of surgery is preferred when there are only minor imperfections to be fixed.
During open rhinoplast surgery, Dr. Freeman will make an incision across the base of the nostrils exposing the cartilage. If you require more extensive modifications or repairs to your nose, open rhinoplast provides Dr. Freeman better access to the interior anatomy of your nose where he can make more precise corrections.
Revision rhinoplasty is done to correct previous surgery. Dr. Freeman does more revision rhinoplast than any other facial plastic surgeon in Charlotte NC or the entire Southeast. This surgery can address several different issues, including misplaced grafts, lost nasal support structure, or built-up scar tissue. Revision rhinoplast surgery can be difficult and challenging which is why it is important to select a highly experienced rhinoplast specialist such as Dr. Freeman. He has more than twenty years’ experience performing rhinoplasty surgery procedures and is dual board-certified by both the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and by the American Board of Otolaryngology, which certifies neck and head surgeons. Dr. Freeman recommends you wait at least one year before considering revision rhinoplast surgery.
