What Botox is
Botox was first used by ophthalmologists in the late 1980s to treat optic muscle disorders. In 2002, the FDA approved its use for treating moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Botox may be used to treat not only frown lines, but also crow’s feet and forehead furrows.
While injectable fillers add volume to depressions in the skin, Botox blocks the release of the chemical which causes the muscle contractions which result in wrinkles. Botox relaxes the facial’s muscles so they cannot contract and the results from a Botox treatment are usually visible within one week of the shot and will remain between three and six months.
Botox treatments should only be performed by a licensed physician such as Dr. M. Sean Freeman, one of Charlotte’s best facial plastic surgeons. Dr. Freeman can perform Botox injections at this state-of-the-art clinic, The Center for Facial and Plastic Laser Surgery located in Charlotte NC.
Botox injections, as well as injections of other types of cosmetic fillers require a precise knowledge of facial anatomy. Dr. Freeman is considered one of the best facial plastic surgeons in Charlotte NC, as well as the entire Southeast and possesses extensive experience and knowledge of both of these cosmetic treatments. Depending upon your individual situation, Dr. Freeman may also recommend additional procedures.
